Using Communication As A Way of Fixing Disputes
From a study done by Time to Change campaign, it is worrying to see that quite a large percentage of people lacks a person whom they can speak to about their problems or challenges. From a sample of 2500 people that this study questioned, 66% said getting a person said that it is difficult to get that person with whom they can share their mental, health, relationship or money challenges.
The most cited reason for this problem is the lack of a best place or time to talk. Responses from 36% of those questioned said that it was difficult to find a right time to speak out while those who lack a convenient place to talk about their problems was 28%.
According to the campaign’s director, Sue Baker OBE, there are barriers to talking and they will require hard work in order to be broken down.
These barriers can be associated with increasing family separation and divorce being witnessed in various parts of the world. The mindset that there is a right time or place to talk is the continually deteriorates social ties among people. Lives can be greatly changed through conversations. According to the Time to Talk Day campaign, anytime, any place is right for a conversation. This campaign pushes for small steps to the conversation.
Families especially those with children face hard challenges when separating. This is because the separation does not only affect the couples but more adversely the children.
A greater group of people will be intimidated when speaking their problems face to face. This is very understandable but it should not be a barrier. Parents may find it difficult to break to their children about the impending separation. This is especially if they are not that open to the children. If one on one conversation is not possible, then, sending messages, phone call or leaving a note should do.
Getting time and place to hold a conversation is challenging to many people. Families are busy these days and the time shared together is getting less as days go by. As earlier said, any time and place are always right to speak out. Parent and children should use the available chances to talk about their issues. This can be done when doing household chores or when travelling. Through these conversations, conflicts can be solved easily
Couples and their children are encouraged to be open and honest with each other. This is something that helps in building trust among them. This way, they can be able to share their issues comfortably. Lack of trust is a major cause of family separation. If it can be cultivated then, a lot of problems can be solved.
During a conversation, it is good to be gentle. Couples sometimes misunderstand each other or even their kids which raises antagonism among themselves. If only one can take time to understand the other, then, such misunderstandings can be avoided. Specialists like John Glanvill are worth calling or talk to https://www.bacp.co.uk/
